'What kid doesn't run to the window when the mail man drives by,' Linda Romine said. Linda is a voulunteer for the Parents as Teachers program and says the Tons of Trucks event is a chance for kids and parents to interact with the big vehicles they always see but never get to touch. The Parents with Teachers program tries to help parents with children from birth to age 5 as they begin to learn. 'Parents are really a childs first teachers,' Romine said. The program has in-home visits by certified parent educators. parent child activites and a recouce center for parents. Parents as Teachers has teamed up with the Parks and Recreation department for the past five years to put on the Tons of Trucks event, which usually attracts as many as 1,500 parent and kids.
